Aaron School’s Annual Castleball Tournament Kicks Off 2025

  |   45th Street, Aaron School, Special Programs

The highly anticipated Annual Castleball Tournament officially began on January 14th at the 30th Street campus! Castleball is a fun, and at times a little competitive, game that students look forward to playing every year after returning from Winter Break. For this tournament, each grade was divided into two teams: The Falcon Warriors and Falcon Knights. These teams consisted of around six students each. Set up in bracket format, the tournament ran throughout the week, and students competed against each other with the winning team moving on to the next round.

In speaking with Mr. Scotto, our Physical Education/Health Teacher, he provided an overview of how this game is played. Castleball consists of each team having three “castles”, which are structures made from hula hoops. Team members must “guard” these castles and prevent them from being knocked down by their opponents. To knock down a castle, teams throw foam balls at them. Once a team knocks down the three castles of the other team, they WIN!

Castleball 101: (Games are played in the gym)

Each team has a line they can’t cross while throwing a ball.

Players can retrieve a ball but can only throw from their team’s side of the gym. This ensures both teams throw from an equal distance.

Players can choose who stands in front of the castles as “guards”, and those players can remain there throughout the game.

If someone throws a ball and it’s caught by a member of the opposing team, the person who threw the ball must sit out for 10 seconds.

While not everyone can win the title of Aaron School Castleball Champion, this traditional tournament offers students a great opportunity to engage in teamwork, strategy, and sportsmanship. Ultimately, one team will win, but every student always walks away with lasting memories.

Congratulations to all who participated and made this year’s event such a success.

We are already looking forward to 2026!
