In March, Aaron School 30th Street came together for a heartfelt celebration of International Women’s History Month. A school wide assembly was held and the theme was “Moving Forward Together: Women Educating & Inspiring Generations.” In the assembly, the student body discussed the ongoing impact women have on shaping the lives of people and communities around the world.
The event was organized by the Humanities Department in collaboration with the STEAM Department. Additional support around this event was provided by the Spirit Council and also by our music club, led by Ms. Shamrakov and Ms. Santos. Thanks to their efforts, the assembly was both informative and inspiring.
Two interactive art activities that further honored the legacy and influence of women also brought our school community closer together.
Students learned about the historical significance of the color purple, a symbol of the feminist movement and gender equality. Each table of students contributed to a growing purple paper chain, decorating their links with quotes, images, and names of inspiring women. The chain served as a powerful visual representation of unity, strength, and empowerment.
In a more personal expression of appreciation, students wrote heartfelt messages in cards dedicated to women who impacted their lives in a meaningful way. Whether it was a mother, sister, teacher, grandmother, or even a historical figure, the cards allowed students to reflect on the support and inspiration they’ve received. Many students later presented these cards to their chosen recipients, spreading joy and recognition in the process.
Through these activities and the overall energy of the celebration, Aaron School 30th Street came together and celebrated not only the achievements of women worldwide but also the individual connections that shape our everyday lives.
